Ms. Shay Mikell

 

Ms. Shay Mikell has a BA in Russian and Soviet Studies and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Sewanee: The University of the South. After living abroad working for the American Embassy in Moscow, she returned home and married.  She was blessed with five children whom she homeschooled for ten years in the classical model before spending the next 20+ years in private elementary, middle, and high school schools as a Latin teacher. Prior to returning to Beaufort, she served as the Dean of Middle School for a University Model School in Rock Hill, SC. She came and taught for two years as a sixth grade teacher at HTCCS before moving into the Upper School to teach Latin.  She enjoys the never-ending surprises that middle schoolers present in life and education…they are “her people”. Ms. Mikell is an active member of both her church and her community and spends her time in her garden or with her family at Edisto.
